Founding Designer
The first design hire beyond the founders. You'll set the product-design language for the runtime, ship marketing surfaces alongside it, and hire the next two designers as the team grows from 32 to ~50.
About the role
The first dedicated product designer at Hatch. You'll own the visual and interaction system across the dashboard, the workflow editor, the docs, and the marketing site. The product is technical (developer-facing) but the brand is not — we want the docs to read like a thoughtful essay and the editor to feel as carefully considered as Linear.
The shape of the role: 70% IC product design — flows, prototypes, design system, the design-engineering review loop. 20% brand and marketing — landing pages, illustration direction, sales decks for the enterprise team. 10% hiring the next two designers as we grow toward Series B.
You'll work directly with Diego (design lead, currently the only other designer at Hatch) and report to Helena (Head of Product). The team you'd partner with has shipped at Figma, Linear, Vercel, and Plain — the bar is high but the politics are low.
What you'll do
• Own the v2 of the dashboard end-to-end. Currently functional but feels engineering-led — your job is to make it the surface customers compare to Linear and Plain.
• Build out the visual system. We have Figma libraries that need rationalizing; you'll inherit them, sharpen them, and ship the rules document.
• Run the design-engineering review cadence. Weekly with the runtime team, every other week with the dashboard team. Real reviews, not approval theater.
• Direct the brand work for the next major launch (Hatch v2, planned for September). The eng team will execute; you'll define what good looks like.
• Hire two designers before end of year — one product-leaning, one marketing-leaning.
Who you are
• Six-plus years as a product designer, at least three of those at a Series A–C startup where you owned a meaningful surface.
• Strong systems thinking — you've built, shipped, and maintained a design system at production scale.
• Comfortable working with engineers directly. You can prototype in Figma, but you can also read a pull request and review the implementation.
• Opinions about developer tools and AI products. Bonus if you've shipped at one before.
• Hiring experience is a plus, not a requirement — we'll back you on your first two hires.
About Hatch
Hatch is the workflow runtime for AI-native products. We're a 32-person team across Brooklyn and Berlin, $42M Series A (Accel + Khosla), and 250+ customers running production workloads on us today. Founded in 2024 by Mei Tanaka (ex-design lead at Notion) and Aaron Park (ex-infra at Stripe and Modal).
Our customers ship AI agents, copilots, and autonomous workflows. We solve the boring problems underneath them: queueing, retries, versioning, observability, rollback. The product is opinionated, the docs are honest, and the bills don't surprise you. We're remote-OK with hubs in two cities, comp is transparent, and we hire slow on purpose — the team you'd join all read the runtime end-to-end in their first two weeks.
